That inheritance gives it a silhouette no purpose-built resort would have chosen: angular, multi-level, and glazed almost the whole way round, with sightlines across the St Lawrence back toward the city.

As a hotel it functions as a full-service property — accommodation, several restaurants across price points, meeting and event space, and parkland immediately outside on the island. The gaming floor is one facility among those, arranged over multiple levels inside the pavilion structure, and guests can use the hotel entirely without it.

The island setting is the real differentiator. Jean-Drapeau park, the rowing basin and the circuit are all within walking distance, and central Montreal is a short drive or metro ride away.

River Rock sits in Richmond on the Fraser River, minutes from Vancouver International Airport and directly on the Canada Line that runs into downtown Vancouver. Its own marina means a portion of arrivals come by water, which is rare for a hotel of this type.

The resort side includes a hotel tower, a smaller boutique building, a spa, a show theatre used for concerts and events, and a range of restaurants. The gaming floor is one part of the property, and the hotel is commonly used simply as an airport-adjacent base.

Richmond's own draw — the night market in season and one of the strongest concentrations of regional Chinese cooking in North America — is the reason many guests choose this side of the river over downtown.

Casino Rama stands on the Chippewas of Rama First Nation land near Orillia, about ninety minutes north of Toronto and on the edge of the Lake Country region. It is owned by the First Nation, and that ownership is part of how the property presents itself rather than a footnote.

The resort combines a hotel, a large entertainment venue that has hosted touring acts for decades, a spa and several dining rooms, alongside a licensed gaming floor. The entertainment programme is the element most guests plan around.

The surroundings are cottage country: Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe, the Trent-Severn waterway, and a summer season that looks entirely different from the winter one.
